UPSC CSE 2018 final results declared; Kanishak Kataria tops
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the much-awaited results of the Civil Services Examination 2018 on its official website. According to reports, Kanishak Kataria has topped the CSE 2018, while Akshat Jain bagged the second position and Junaid Ahmad secured the third position. Meanwhile, Srushti Jayant Deshmukh with All India Rank (AIR) 5 emerged as the topper among women. Here's more.
10 women among the top 25 rankers
Meanwhile, Namrata Jain, a candidate from the Naxal hotbed of Dantewada in Chhattisgarh has secured All India Rank (AIR) 12. Among the top 25 rankers of the CSE 2018, 15 are men and 10 are women. The CSE Main (written) examination was conducted in September-October last year. The interviews for the Personality Test were held in February and March this year.
A little about toppers Kataria and Srushti
The CSE 2018 topper, Kataria, is reportedly a BTech graduate from IIT Bombay. He belongs to the SC (Scheduled Caste) category. He had qualified the CSE Main with Mathematics as the optional subject, according to the UPSC. The topper among women, Srushti Jayant Deshmukh, has done BE (Chemical Engineering) from Bhopal's Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, according to a press release.
759 candidates recommended by UPSC for appointment
As many as 759 candidates, comprising 577 men and 182 women, have been recommended by the UPSC for appointment to the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Central Services Group "A" and Group "B".
1,994 candidates qualified for the Personality Test this year
The CSE Preliminary Examination was held by the UPSC in June 2018. While over 10 lakh candidates registered for the Prelims, around 5 lakh of them had appeared for the exam. Of these candidates, nearly 10,500 candidates had qualified for the Main exam in September-October last year. However, only 1,994 candidates cleared the Main exam, qualifying for the Personality Test in February-March 2019.
