Arvind Saxena appointed acting UPSC chief to replace Vinay Mittal
Union Public Service Commission member Arvind Saxena has been appointed as the acting Chairman of the Commission from June 20. Saxena, a 1978-batch Indian Postal Service officer, will take over the charge from incumbent Vinay Mittal who completes his term at UPSC on June 19. Saxena joined UPSC in May 2015 after completing his stint at the Aviation Research Centre (ARC).
Saxena to take over as Chairman from 20 June
The latest government order said Saxena would "perform the duties of the post of Chairman, UPSC" with effect from June 20 till further orders or completion of his tenure in August 2020. UPSC conducts civil services examination annually in three stages, preliminary, main, and interview, to select officers for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.
Saxena was also a RAW officer
Arvind Saxena has also worked in the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). The officer had joined RAW in 1988 and "specialized in the study of strategic developments in neighboring countries".
