UP Police launches app for lodging e-FIR: Details here
Several people opt out of filing a complaint at police stations in the country, despite the gravity of the crime, as it's tedious. Now, in order to make this process seamless for the people, Uttar Pradesh Police has recently launched an app, UPCOP. Using the app, citizens can lodge an e-FIR (First Information Report) in cases of theft, cyber fraud, etc. Here's more.
FIR registered is essential to claim recovery, says Additional DGP
Additional Director General of Police (Technical Services), Ashutosh Pandey, who has helped in the preparation of UPCOP, said, "In most such cases, getting an FIR registered is essential to claim recovery or even get your loss recorded. But the victims have to make several rounds of police stations before their FIR can be registered." "To ease this, we have launched this app," Pandey added.
App provides 26 other services, like character certificate, tenant verification
Apart from registering an e-FIR, one can also use the app for 26 other services. Like, one can report a lost article, get nearest police station's details, request for a character certificate, for tenant/domestic help verification, etc. Permission for protest/strike, event performance or shoots can also be requested via the app. UP Police will also disseminate information like recovered vehicles via the app.
Share confidential information with police, identity will be protected
That's not it. With the help of this app, one can also share confidential information with the police regarding a crime. Rest assured, none of the informer's details will be revealed by the authorities. Meanwhile, one can also apply for the documents, which are issued by the District Magistrate or the District Collector, as they are linked to the state government's e-district portal too.
Users face technical glitch, rate app poorly on Google Play
Meanwhile, several users have rated the app poorly on Google Play Store. While many were not able to register on the app due to some technical glitch, others didn't receive their requested documents way past the given date. "I have applied for character certificate almost one month ago but still no progress seen in online status," one of the users commented on Google Play.
