UP: Woman molested in ambulance, ailing husband dies without oxygen
A woman was allegedly molested inside an ambulance in Siddharthnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, while accompanying her sick husband to a hospital. The incident occurred on August 30 when the woman's husband, Harish, was being transported for medical treatment. After assaulting her, the ambulance workers removed his oxygen support and ejected both of them from the vehicle.
Assault took place on way to woman's home
The woman had initially taken Harish to Basti Medical College after he fell ill. However, due to his worsening condition, doctors referred him to another hospital. Unable to afford the private hospital's fee, she decided to take him back home for treatment. During their journey in the ambulance, the driver forced her to sit upfront with him and along with his aide sexually harassed her.
Victim's brother informs police
When the woman attempted to protest and shout, they stopped her husband's oxygen supply and threw him out of the ambulance along with her. The ambulance driver also allegedly stole her jewelry and ₹10,000 from her purse. After being informed by the victim's brother—who was held hostage in the front cabin—police transported Harish to Gorakhpur Medical College where he later died during treatment.
Police register case, begin investigation
The victim has lodged a written complaint at Ghazipur police station in Lucknow, alleging that the police made no attempts to arrest the ambulance driver and his aide. Additional Director General of Police Lucknow North Jitendra Dubey confirmed that a case has been registered based on her complaint. "Our teams are trying to arrest the accused," stated Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) of Lucknow Jitendra Kumar Dubey, assuring necessary action is underway.
