UP: Two booked over rape of woman by promising marriage
The Uttar Pradesh police has booked a man, who claimed to be a retired army officer, and his aide in connection with the alleged rape of a woman on the false promise of marriage, police said Saturday. Superintendent of Police (City) Ravindra Singh said, the 30-year-old woman, claimed that Mohar Singh, a resident of Saharanpur district introduced himself as a retired Colonel.
Singh raped the woman at her house four years ago
The SP mentioned that the woman sings at music events, and she met Singh at one such program for the first time. The SP (city) said that four years ago when the woman lived in a rented house near the city station, the man, who is in his mid-fifties came to her house and raped her by promising marriage.
He took money from the woman to build a house
The woman alleged that later Singh took Rs. 20 lakh from her to buy a plot and build a house on it. He started living with her there but did not marry, the SP said. The woman also alleged Singh has been trying to get rid of her for the past year by threatening her of initiating legal action.
Singh called her to Haridwar but didn't answer her calls
On March 27, he called her to Haridwar (Uttarakhand) saying they will marry there. The next day, the girl tried to contact the man after reaching Roorkee, but she did not get any reply.
Later, Singh and his aide beat her up
When the woman returned to her home around 8:00 pm, Mohar Singh and his aide Hammed were already there and they beat her up and allegedly tried to rape her, the police officer said. The SP (city) said a case was registered on Friday against the two and efforts are on to arrest them.
A similar incident took place in UP in 2019
