What's the story

The Uttar Pradesh Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Commission today said the Aligarh Muslim University is not a minority institution and issued notice asking to explain why it does not give reservation to the SC/ST communities. Lal says if AMU doesn't reply, commission will summon them

"The Supreme Court has not passed any order in which the AMU was prevented from providing reservation benefits to SC/STs," Lal said. He said AMU was like any other central university formed under a Central Act and runs on its funds. He also said if AMU doesn't reply within the stipulated time, the commission will use its power and issue summons to them.
