UP: Alleged rape victim goes to cops carrying fetus
In a disturbing incident, a 19-year-old woman went to Hasanpur police station, in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, carrying a fetus in a bag to file a rape complaint on Saturday. The woman, a Dalit, was allegedly raped by Manoj, also a Dalit, about six months ago at gunpoint. Police have filed a case of rape and forced abortion, and are yet to nab the accused.
When victim told accused about pregnancy, he gave her pills
The victim was allegedly raped by Manoj when she had gone to attend nature's call, said SHO Devendra Kumar. He threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone. When she told Manoj she's pregnant, he gave her pills to abort the five-month-old fetus on July 13. Her family didn't know about the rape or pregnancy. The fetus has been sent for medical examination.
Police says victim and accused were in relationship, family denies
On Thursday, when the victim screamed in pain, the family learned of the incident. She delivered a stillborn, and her father said they brought the fetus along to support their claim. Circle officer Ajay Kumar said a preliminary investigation revealed the victim and Manoj were in a relationship. The woman asked him to marry her upon getting pregnant. Her father denied this theory.
Police have registered case, looking for accused
In MP too, rape victim approached police carrying fetus
The Amroha incident is not the only one of its kind. In MP, a 16-year-old minor approached Satna police to file a rape complaint, carrying a fetus. When she was going to the hospital in acute pain, the accused and his friends allegedly took her to a doctor's house, aborted the child and handed it over to her. She was threatened with dire consequences.
