Medical team going to COVID-19 patient's house attacked
Three government medical personnel, including two doctors, and their driver were injured after their car was attacked by a group of people when they had gone to a village in Ballia district to give medicines to a COVID-19 patient. The incident took place at Paswan Chowk village on Sunday. The medical team's vehicle was surrounded by about 60 people and attacked.
Attacked by over 60 people, medical officer registers complaint
According to a complaint lodged at the Bairia police station by medical officer Neeraj Kumar Singh, who was injured in the incident, around 60 persons, including women and children, surrounded the government vehicle and attacked. "The team had gone to the village to give Ghanshyam, a COVID-19 patient, his medicines and check on his home isolation," Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Yadav said.
Police has arrested a man in the concerned case
Members of the team somehow managed to escape from there. Dr. Neeraj Kumar Singh, Dr. Amit Kumar Gautam, lab assistant Upendra Prasad and driver Lal Bahadur Yadav were injured. A man named Jitendra has been arrested in the case. Ballia District Magistrate Aditi Singh said the administration is mulling to initiate action under the stringent National Security Agency (NSA).
UP registers over 30K positive cases in a day
Uttar Pradesh has registered more than 852K cases with an increase of 30,566 cases registered in the state yesterday. Meanwhile, India on Monday reported 2.73 lakh new coronavirus infections. The nationwide tally has now crossed 1.5 crore. Active cases have surpassed the 18-lakh mark. The death toll due to the COVID-19 pandemic has increased to 1,78,769.
