UP: Man goes to register complaint, gets jailed instead
In a disturbing incident which raises concern about police administration in Uttar Pradesh, again, a man was arrested in Wazirganj after he went to register a complaint on behalf of his mother-in-law. The man, identified as 45-year-old Nitin Paliwal, had gone to the station on Wednesday but was put behind bars. However, police said he was arrested as he misbehaved with officials.
Paliwal's mother-in-law was thrown out of the house
Paliwal's wife Prachi said her husband had gone to complain against her sister-in-law. Prachi said after her brother died, his wife Priyanka threw her 78-year-old mother Ankita out of the house. Ankita then started living with Prachi. "When my husband reached the police station with my mother's complaint, the police didn't just refuse to lodge the FIR, they also beat him up and sent him to jail," she said.
Notably, Priyanka had filed case against Prachi
Further, Prachi alleged her husband was treated badly because Priyanka is employed with the Dial 100 service of UP police. According to reports, Priyanka too had lodged a complaint at the same police station accusing Prachi of instigating Ankita against her. Prachi's claims were dismissed by police. SHO of Wazirganj, Ambar Singh insisted Paliwal was arrested after he created ruckus at the police station.
Police say Paliwal's behavior got him arrested
Singh denied that Paliwal had come to register a complaint on behalf of his mother-in-law. "He had been called to a police outpost, under our police station, to record his statement in connection with a complaint lodged against him by his sister-in-law Priyanka Mishra," he said. The officer claimed they had to arrest Paliwal after he attacked one of the policemen.
