UP legislative council chairman's wife arrested for killing son
Late on Sunday, the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested the wife of a lawmaker on charges of killing her 23-year-old son. Meera Yadav, the second wife of UP legislative council chairman Ramesh Yadav, reportedly confessed to killing her son, Abhijeet Yadav, after police interrogated her. She has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody. Here are the details.
Meera had almost gotten away with murder when police intervened
The alleged murder took place at Ramesh Yadav's official quarters in Lucknow's Darul Shafa, when the lawmaker was out of town. After killing her son, Meera Yadav had tried burying the truth, and had said that he had died of ill health. However, while Abhijit's body was being taken to be cremated, police intervened and seized the body, suspecting foul play.
Meera had strangled Abhijit in a fit of rage
Abhijit's body was sent for post-mortem by the police, and the report revealed that he had died of strangulation. Subsequently, Meera was detained, and cracked under interrogation. She revealed that she had strangled her son with a piece of cloth in a fit of rage, after he came home drunk and an argument broke out.
Lawmaker Ramesh Yadav expresses his shock at the murder
"I am not aware of the situation that led to his death. We are all in shock because there was no dispute in the family," said a shocked Ramesh Yadav, who returned to Lucknow just ahead of Abhijit's cremation.
