Girl attends 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' event, dies afterwards
In a tragic and rather ironic incident, a Class 9 student from Uttar Pradesh passed away due to illness shortly after she returned from an event on the theme of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'. She was among the 11,000 school girls who scripted a world record by gathering at the Hardoi district on Thursday to take an oath on the campaign. Here's more.
Parents allege negligence on part of district authorities
The Class 9 student, Supriya Sharma attended the event on Thursday and returned home with a high fever. She was subsequently rushed to a hospital where she succumbed during treatment. After her death, her parents alleged that the Hardoi district authorities had not made adequate arrangements for the health and safety of those attending the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' event.
Supriya's aggrieved father levels allegations against district authorities
"She went to attend the function. But the arrangement made there were not up to the mark. Drinking water was not available. When my daughter came back home, she was suffering from high fever," said Supriya's aggrieved father.
District authorities deny all responsibility for the death
Commenting on the allegations, Hemant Rao, the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) of the Hardoi district denied the accusations of negligence, saying that district authorities had taken all necessary arrangements for the event, and was, in no way, responsible for Supriya's death. The event had been organized by the district administration along with representatives of Eurasia World.
The truth will be out soon, says district admin
"Every facility was available medical, drinking water facility. The accusation made by the family is baseless and the matter is being investigated. Soon the truth will come out," said Hemant Rao, dismissing the allegations made by Supriya's father.
