The incident happened on Sunday.
VHP activists harassed couple, dragged them to police station
On the day of the incident, VHP activists allegedly barged into the room of the man, accused him of 'love jihad', and beat the two. Both are students of a medical college. After assaulting them, the activists dragged them to the Medical police station, where they were detained without any charges. Later, the woman was let go after her parents arrived at the station.
In video, cops ask problematic questions, thrash woman
In the viral video, cops were seen asking problematic questions to the woman. The cops first grilled her about her whereabouts and then asked, "Mullah zyada pasand aaraha?" (Are you finding Muslims better?). The clip also shows a female constable land slaps on the woman in the video. Notably, VHP members asked girl's father to file a complaint, but he called it a misunderstanding.
Who are the ones who have been suspended
Those who were suspended have been identified as head constable Salek Chand, constable Neetu Singh and constable Priyanka. A home guard, who was also present, is likely to be suspended too. Superintendent of Police (city) Ranvijay Singh said, "We came to know about the incident through the video and then the senior superintendent of police directed us to suspend the personnel concerned."
