UP: Chopan Municipal Board Chairman Imtiyaz Ahmed shot dead
The Chopan Nagar Panchayat Chairman Imtiyaz Ahmed was shot dead by three assailants today morning, police said. One of the assailants was caught and severely thrashed by the locals. He was identified as Rakesh Kumar of Palamu, Jharkhand. Ahmed was shot at while he had gone to play volleyball in Preet Nagar area near his residence. Chopan is a town in UP's Sonbhadra district.
Ahmed died on his way to the district hospital
Ahmed was rushed to the nearby Community Health Center from where he was referred to the district hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on the way. Meanwhile, Kumar was beaten up severely by the locals and had to be rushed to a Varanasi hospital. While the reason behind the killing wasn't immediately known, efforts were on to nab the other two assailants.
