    First female President of UP Bar Council shot dead

    What's the story

    In a shocking incident, the President of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council was shot dead in Agra Civil Court on Wednesday.

    A lawyer identified as Manish Sharma attacked Darvesh Yadav, before firing at himself. She was rushed to hospital but died soon after.

    Notably, Yadav, was elected to the prominent post just recently.

    Yadav was a reputed lawyer, won elections two days ago

    The elections for the post of President of UP Bar Council concluded two days ago. Some 298 people tested their fate.

    Yadav defeated Harishankar Singh to become the first female President of the Council.

    Yadav, who is the daughter of a senior police officer, had earlier held the positions of Vice-President and acting Vice-President.

    She has been practising law since 2004.

    What happened

    Series of events: Sharma fired at Yadav after an argument

    As per reports, Yadav's colleagues had organized a function to celebrate her win. After the grand welcome, Yadav went into the chamber of one Arvind Sharma.

    There, Yadav had an argument with Sharma and he lost his cool. He took out his licensed revolver and rained bullets on her.

    Subsequently, he shot himself and is said to be critical.

    Meanwhile, Oudh Bar Association will hold a protest tomorrow

    The Oudh Bar Association called an emergency meeting after the murder. The Association condemned the attack in strong words and announced that they would hold a protest on Thursday. The Association wants the state government to set up a special team for the investigation.
