UP: 18-year-old girl 'beheads' minor sisters with spade; arrested
In a horrific incident, two sisters—aged six and four—were found "beheaded" at their home in Bahadurpur village of Uttar Pradesh's Etawah district, reports said on Tuesday. The police have arrested the victims' 18-year-old sister, Anjali Pal, who admitted to the crime, Hindustan Times reported, citing police officials. The deceased girls have been identified as Surbhi and Roshni, the younger daughters of Jaiveer Singh. Authorities are now working on ascertaining the motive behind this terrible act.
Girl admitted to crime after questioning, say police
The girls had seen Pal in an objectionable position, prompting her to kill them with a shovel, on Sunday, the Uttar Pradesh Police alleged, per India Today. At first, Pal reportedly tried to deceive the police by stating she found her sisters' bodies and heads in separate rooms when she returned home. However, after making contradictory statements during questioning, she ultimately confessed to the crime, the police said. Pal has had a medical examination, and an investigation is still underway.
Murder weapon, other evidence found
Moreover, the police said they found a spade, thought to be the murder weapon, in Singh's house. They also found bloodstains on both the spade and clothes worn by Pal on the day of the crime. The accused had also washed her clothes and cleaned the murder weapon to destroy the evidence, the police alleged. Pal's family, including her father Singh, mother Sushila, and brothers Nand Kishore (12) and Kanhaiya (8), were not at home when the incident occurred.
Police interrogate 3 more persons
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Police filed a case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 302 (murder) and 201 (concealing evidence or providing false information). According to reports, Pal is being questioned by the police, along with three men. "We are questioning her, and the reason behind the murder will be ascertained soon. We are also looking at the involvement of the three men," said Etawah Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Varma.
Rising crime in Uttar Pradesh
This incident came to the fore just days after a 53-year-old doctor, Ghanshyam Tripathi, was found murdered in UP's Sultanpur. Two persons, including the main accused, Ajay Narayan Singh, and his aide Deepak Singh, were arrested in the case on Monday. Moreover, the state has reportedly been witnessing a surge in crimes, especially against women and minors, including rape and sexual abuse cases. Earlier this month, a 60-year-old man reportedly raped a five-year-old girl in Bareilly and later hanged himself.
