UP: Bus hits divider; 17 people killed, 20 injured
A bus on its way to Farrukhabad from Jaipur, carrying 60-70 passengers, overturned after hitting a divider in Tirathpur village, around 25km from UP's Mainpuri. At least 17 people, including one woman, were killed and 20 injured. The bus driver lost his left leg and is currently treated in a Saifai hospital. Identities of the victims are yet to be ascertained, police said.
Most passengers were laborers, who work in brick kilns
Mainpuri ASP Om Prakash Singh said, the bus was carrying mostly laborers, who work in brick kilns and were returning to their native villages. The injured were admitted to hospitals in Saifai and Mainpuri, while three of them were referred to Agra. The number-plate of the bus revealed that it was registered in Farrukhabad (UP 76), Singh said. Further details are awaited, he added.
