UP schoolgirl leaves cops speechless with question on Unnao rape
On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh police delivered a lecture on women's safety at a school in Barabanki to mark police security week. The irony may be lost on them, since the lecture comes on the heels of the convenient car crash that left the Unnao rape survivor critically injured, along with her lawyer. The victim had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of rape.
Incident took place at Anand Bhawan school
According to NDTV, a Class-XI student, identified as Muniba Kidwai, left UP cops stunned, when they went to deliver a lecture at the Anand Bhawan school. Reportedly, the girl spoke up in the middle of the lecture to inquire about the safety of girls, including her own, when politicians perpetrate such crimes. She asked the question, referring to the Unnao rape case.
Everyone knows it's not an accident, says the student
Kidwai said, "You said we should raise our voice and protest. We know a teen was raped by a BJP leader." She said, "Everyone knows it's no accident. The truck number plate was painted black...It's one thing to protest when an ordinary person is involved, but what if the person is someone powerful?" She added, "If we protest, how will you ensure justice?"
Girl's question left cops stunned; audience applauded
Kidwai's question came after Additional Superintendent of Police S Gautam had reportedly encouraged the audience to raise their voice and protest. Her question not only left the cops stunned, about was welcomed by thunderous applause across the audience in the room.
Truck, with blackened plate, rammed into survivor's car
To recall, on Sunday, the girl, who had accused Sengar of rape, was traveling in a car, along with her two aunts and lawyer, to visit her uncle, currently serving life-term in a separate case. In Raebareli, a truck, with its number plate blackened, rammed into the car. The survivor's two aunts died, her lawyer is severely injured and she is currently on ventilator.
Murder case registered against Sengar; truck driver, owner nabbed
The police have arrested the owner and the driver of the truck. A case of murder was also registered against the BJP legislator. "It was not an accident but a conspiracy to eliminate all of us," the survivor's mother told reporters in Unnao on Monday.
Girl allegedly raped on two occasions
In 2018, the girl had alleged that Sengar had raped her twice the previous year-once alone, and another time when she was gangraped. Ever since the girl spoke up, her father has died in police custody and she has attempted suicide outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence to get herself heard. The police recently confirmed that they received 25 complaints from the family.
