Unnao rape survivor is critical, on life support system: AIIMS
The Unnao rape survivor, who was seriously injured in a car crash last month, continues to be critical and is on a life support system, AIIMS said on Wednesday. The victim's lawyer is also serious, the hospital revealed. Both of them were airlifted from Lucknow's KGMU Hospital for better treatment on August 5. Earlier, officials at Lucknow hospital said she developed pneumonia.
Backstory: Allegedly raped by Kuldeep Sengar, victim met with accident
The survivor, who was allegedly raped by now-expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar, met with an accident on July 28 when she was on her way to meet her uncle, jailed in Rae Bareli prison. Two of her aunts died in the accident. The truck, which collided with the car, had its number plate wiped out. The victim's family claimed Sengar engineered the accident.
Delhi police had created a green corridor for survivor
The series of events sparked outrage, forcing the Supreme Court to step in. The CBI, which was already probing the rape incident, was put on a deadline to investigate the crash too. On SC's order, the survivor was lifted to AIIMS. Notably, the Delhi police created a green corridor. The almost 14 km distance from IGI Airport to AIIMS was covered in 18 minutes.
Here's what an official from AIIMS said about them
Aarti Vij, chairperson, Media and Protocol Division in AIIMS said, "Both the patients are undergoing treatment under a multi-disciplinary team of doctors from critical care, orthopedic, trauma surgery and pulmonary medicine."
Meanwhile, CBI told court that Sengar raped the victim
On Wednesday, CBI told a Tis Hazari court that the allegations which the victim leveled on Sengar were true. The victim told CBI that Sengar's accomplice, Shashi Singh, took her to the MLA's house under the pretext of getting her a job. Sengar took the victim to a room where he allegedly raped her, CBI told the court.
