#UnnaoRapeCase: FIR filed against survivor, family members on forgery allegations
In a major twist in the Unnao rape case, an FIR has been registered against the survivor, her mother, and uncle on directions of a local court. The case was registered on Sunday at the Makhi police station on charges of fraud, forgery, and tampering evidence to 'frame innocent people'. Notably, BJP legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar is the prime accused in the rape case.
Who complained against the survivor and her family?
The FIR against the survivor and her kin was registered on the complaint of one Haripal Singh. Haripal's wife Shashi and son Shubham were named as accused in the FIR lodged in connection to the rape case. The mother and son were arrested, along with Sengar, but Haripal claimed they were falsely framed. After finding substance in his plea, the court ordered an FIR.
Understanding the allegations on the rape survivor
In his application, Haripal claimed that the survivor had an affair with a man named Awadhesh Tewari. They had eloped in September 2017, he alleged. He claimed that the survivor's family pressurized Shashi to get Shubham married to her when she returned. When the mother-son duo rejected the proposal, the victim's family falsely framed them, Haripal alleged. He leveled other allegations as well.
Victim's family allegedly forged documents to show she's a minor
Further, Haripal alleged that the victim's mother and uncle forged documents to show the girl was a minor. They apparently used fake signatures and stamp of the principal and Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) of Rae Bareli district, Haripal claimed. Confirming the FIR, Station House Officer (SHO) of Makhi police station Dinesh Mishra said a probe would be conducted to ascertain the authenticity of documents.
The Unnao rape case had sparked outrage in the country
The horrific case came to light in April this year. The victim alleged she was raped by Sengar and his accomplices in 2017. Despite complaining to the police, no action was taken against the accused. Upset with this, the victim tried self-immolation outside the residence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Later, UP police had handed over the case to CBI.
