    What's the story

In a disturbing incident, 50 women of MP's Dr Hari Singh Gour University have alleged they were strip-searched after a used sanitary napkin was found in a hostel corridor near a washroom.

The warden, a woman, was apparently trying to find out who was on her periods and might have left the napkin there.

However, the warden had denied the allegations, the vice-chancellor said.

VC assures investigation and strict action

According to the occupants of Rani Lakshmibai Hostel, the warden was angry after finding the napkin and stripped them, even asking them to remove their undergarments.

After they complained to VC RP Tiwari, he has assured an investigation into the matter.

"It's unfortunate and condemnable. I told students that they are all like my daughter and apologized to them," he said.

    Information

Dr Hari Singh Gour University the oldest in MP

Set up in 1946, Hari Singh Gour University, earlier known as Sagar University, is the oldest university in MP. The state government later changed its name to honor its founder Hari Singh Gour.

    Kochi

In December'14, women employees of Kochi firm were treated similarly

Similar reports had surfaced from a Kochi firm more than three years ago, when 45 women employees of Asma Rubber Products Pvt Ltd were strip-searched after a used napkin was found in the washroom.

Officials at the firm had denied the allegations. But a police complaint was lodged.

Incidentally, the supervisors who had stripped the women never found who the pad belonged to.
