Karnataka: Under-construction building collapses in Dharwad; 2 killed, 6 injured
In a tragic incident in Karnataka, two people have been killed and six others were injured as a five-storeyed under-construction building collapsed in Kumareshwara Nagar area of the state's Dharwad district. At least 40 other people are believed to be trapped under the debris, according to the officials. Many of the injured persons have been rushed to the Dharwad district hospital. Here's more.

Karnataka Chief Minister, HD Kumaraswamy, took to Twitter to express shock over the collapse of the under-construction building. He tweeted that the Chief Secretary was directed to dispatch "additional resources and expert rescuers" to the Dharward district on a special flight.

In another tweet, the Chief Minister wrote, "The rescue operation is on and five people have been extricated, so far, from the debris. I have instructed the concerned officials to be on location."

According to news agency ANI, the owners of the under-construction building that has collapsed in Dharwad are Basavraj Nigadi, Gangadhar Shintre, and Ravi Sobrad. "One of the owners Gangadhar Shintre is the father-in-law of Congress leader Vinay Kulkarni," ANI tweeted.

As of now our priority is the rescue: Police Commissioner
MN Nagaraju, the Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner, said, "We have deployed three cranes and four earth movers (at the incident site)." "We have rescued 14 people so far. There is confusion whether it is a four or five story building. We will verify this later, as of now our priority is the rescue," the senior police official added.
No matter whose mistake, action should be taken: Kulkarni
Congress leader Vinay Kulkarni has, meanwhile, confirmed that one of his relatives was involved in the building's construction. "There were eight partners, one of whom is my relative. It's a big incident and no matter whose mistake it is, action should be taken," he said.
