Maharashtra: Two sisters drown while swimming in canal near Malegaon
Two sisters drowned while their cousin was rescued after the three went for a swim in a canal near the Pirbaba temple in Malegaon, Maharashtra. "Sisters Neha Santosh Ahire, 10 and Bhumika, and their cousin Khushi, both seven years of age, went to a nearby canal to swim while their mother was washing clothes," said a police official.
A case of accidental death has been registered
According to the official, the incident happened at around 3:40 pm on Saturday. Even though local fishermen managed to rescue Khushi, they could not save the other two, said police. Bodies of the two sisters were fished out later yesterday evening and handed over to the family, police said, adding that a case of accidental death had been registered.
