Two bogies of a passenger train derail in Lucknow
Two bogies of a passenger train on its way from Amritsar to Jaynagar in Bihar derailed in Lucknow on Monday morning. No casualties were reported. "The 4674 Shahid Express left for its onward journey shortly after the incident," Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Jagtosh Shukla said. The incident took place around 8 am when the train left platform number one at the Charbagh Railway station.
130 passengers were traveling in the derailed bogies
"Among the derailed bogies, one was an AC three-tier and another sleeper. 130 passengers were traveling in them," DRM Northern Railway, Sanjay Tripathi said. "The passengers were shifted to other compartments and the train left for onwards journey around 10:25 am," he added.
Passengers raised an alarm, situation was controlled soon after
SP (Railway Police) Soumitra Yadav said that the incident took place just when the train had started to move from the platform and its speed was only around five to seven kmph. According to railway sources, there was some commotion in the derailed bogies with the passengers raising an alarm, but senior officers reached the spot and the situation was controlled.
A three-member inquiry committee has been set up
A three-member inquiry committee has been constituted to look into the matter and it has been asked to submit its report in seven days. "The derailed bogies were removed from the track and normal train movement was restored by 11 am," the DRM said.
India reported two train accidents in 2020
India has reported seven rail accidents in the last two years. Five occurred in the year 2019 and the other two took place in 2020. 2019 was reported to be the safest year for Indian Railways. It was the first time in 166 years of the transport's history that no casualties or deaths were reported due to train accidents.
