What's the story
On Wednesday, the Additional Solicitor of India, Tushar Mehta was appointed the Solicitor General Of India.
The post was vacant since October last year after Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar resigned.
Mehta will take office soon and will stay as SG till June 30, 2020.
After the Attorney General, Solicitor General is the second highest ranking law officer in India.

Mehta was appointed ASG of India in 2014 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP formed government at Centre. In the past, he has represented the government in many important cases including the challenge of Section 66A of Information Technology Act.
