The Tripura Police has initiated an investigation into a disturbing incident where a married couple was reportedly attacked by locals in the South Tripura district's Manurmukh village.
The mob attacked the couple on Monday night over suspicions that they were committing adultery.
According to the couple, they have been married for 12 years and also have a son.

The video of the assault, posted on the social media page of the opposition CPI(M), shows the husband pleading with the attackers, particularly an older woman who was repeatedly hitting his wife.
He insisted they were married and suggested their marital status could be verified with the police.
The wife also recounted her terrifying experience to reporters, stating, "My husband fell at their feet and repeatedly said I was his wife but they did not listen."

Couple appeals to chief minister for justice
Based on video evidence of the assault, the police on Thursday registered a case against seven to eight individuals under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The charges include voluntarily causing grievous hurt, extortion, criminal intimidation, assault on a woman to outrage her modesty, and common intention.
For swift justice, the husband has also appealed to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha.
