Trio leaked CBSE paper for friendship and "few-thousand" rupees, arrested
Rishabh, Rohit and Tauqeer have known each other since about five years. Sometime ago, Tauqeer asked them for help. The coaching center owner in Delhi wanted his students to clear the exams, so he asked Rishabh and Rohit, both teachers, to get him the Class-12 Economics paper. But while helping their friend and making some quick bucks, the duo fell into the police's net.
They got the question paper earlier on the exam day
Invigilators are given the exam question papers at 9:45am, 45 minutes before the exam starts. However, on March 26, the day of the Economics exam, staff of Mother Khajani Convent School reportedly released the papers at 9:10am. Thus Rohit and Rishabh, teachers at the school, had ample time to click photos and send them to Tauqeer, who then shared them with his students.
Trio arrested, now being questioned to find more details
For this job, Rohit, a BSc from Bahadurgarh in Haryana, and Rishabh, a BTech from Punjab Technical University, got a "few thousand rupees," police said. The trio was arrested yesterday. They are now being questioned in custody. "We are probing whether they were involved in leaking more papers this year or of the previous years," an official said.
Several people questioned in Delhi, arrested in Jharkhand
In Delhi, an SIT has interrogated over 60 people, including students, teachers and tutors, in the leak. Meanwhile, police in Jharkhand have arrested a teacher of a coaching institute in Chatral; apparently, he provided the leaked paper to students as well as solutions to the questions. He then sold them for Rs. 500 to Rs. 5,000. Police have also detained at least nine students.
CBSE announces re-test, but most students angry
In view of the leaks, the CBSE announced a re-test for Class-12 Economics on April 25 and if deemed suitable, a Class-10 Math re-exam for Delhi-NCR and Haryana students. But the country has been rocked by protests against the Board's inefficient handling of the issue: one prime demand is, why re-tests for only these two subjects when many other papers were reportedly leaked too?
