Leaders pay tribute to poet Bharathi on his birth anniversary
Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy led the Union Territory in paying tributes to nationalist poet Subramania Bharathi on his 136th birth-anniversary today. Deputy Speaker V P Sivakolundhu, legislators, delegates of different Tamil outfits and officials were among those who paid tributes at the revolutionary poet's statue near Raj Nivas, Puducherry. Popularly known as 'Mahakavi Bharathi,' he was a zealous freedom-fighter, journalist and social reformer.

Narayanasamy then drove to Bharathiar Memorial-cum-museum located at the place, where the poet lived for 10 years, when the UT was under French rule. Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Harsh Vardhan, Dharmendra Pradhan, and former MP Tarun Vijay also paid tributes to Bharati, aka Bharathiar.
