Five bogies of Patna-Mokama Express catch fire, no casualty
A fire broke out and gutted five bogies and the engine of the Patna-Mokama passenger express last night when it was station at the Mokama Railway Station, reported India Today. There was no casualty. East Central Railway said the incident hadn't impacted train movement. According to reports, the blaze was triggered by a short circuit.

What happened?
At around 1am yesterday, railway staffers at Mokama saw one of the bogies of the train was on fire. They rushed to douse the flames, but couldn't bring the blaze under control. It soon spread to four other bogies and the engine. It had arrived from Patna at 11pm and was stationed in the yard when the mishap happened.
New fire-retardant coaches in the Indian Railways
Last year, the Railways unveiled the advanced Swarna coaches which are furnished with fire-retardant material. Improved material has been used for electrical fittings. Railways is now working on three-tier and four-tier electrical fuse protection system in the coaches. For passenger safety, aisles have been marked with fluorescent strips. Each coach costs the Railways Rs. 2.5cr. Chandigarh-Delhi Shatabdi and Sealdah-Delhi Rajdhani have already been upgraded.
