Traffic restrictions in Delhi: Know which routes to avoid
Delhiiites should brace for four days of traffic restrictions in view of the upcoming ASEAN Summit and Republic Day celebrations. Advisories have already been issued for tomorrow, when a full dress rehearsal for the R-Day parade will take place during 9:50am-12pm. Metro services will also be partially curtailed. Read on to find out which routes will remain closed and which you can use instead.
Restrictions for tomorrow to start today itself
The stretch from Vijay Chowk to India Gate on Rajpath will remain closed from 6pm today till rehearsals are over. Fari Marg, Janpath and Man Singh Road will be closed from 11pm. From 9am tomorrow, traffic won't be allowed on C-Hexagon India Gate till the parade crosses Tilak Marg. From 10am, Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg will be shut.
Metro services to be partially curtailed
Metro services will be available at all stations, but boarding/de-boarding at Kendriya Sachivalaya and Udyog Bhawan stations will remain suspended from the morning till 12pm. At 7, Race Course Road, and Patel Chowk stations, restrictions will begin from 8.45am and continue till 12pm.
You can use these routes instead
There are alternative routes available. Instead of the north-south corridor, commuters can use the Ring Road from Ashram Chowk till Rajghat via Sarai Kale Khan. Otherwise, detours are available through Madrasa-Lodhi Road T-point and Mandir Marg via Aurobindo Marg, AIIMS Chowk and Shankar Road. To substitute the east-west corridor, use the Mathura Road, Dhaula Kuan, Kashmere Gate, IP College and Azadpur routes, among others.
Look out for a fresh advisory for R-Day
Heads of 10 countries are headed to Delhi for the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit on Thursday and the R-Day parade on Friday. They will visit the Taj Palace Hotel on Sardar Patel Marg and Rashtrapati Bhavan. On Wednesday-Thursday, no route will be completely closed for public, but there might be temporary restrictions to facilitate the VIPs' movement. A fresh advisory will be issued for Friday.
