1,495 children stranded in TN railway stations rescued this year
A total of 1,495 children stranded in various railway stations in Tamil Nadu have been rescued and handed over to their parents this year, as against 1,940 last year, Assistant DGP (Railways) C Sylendra Babu said today. He was speaking on the sidelines of a workshop titled 'Crime Against Women and Children in Railways: Investigation Skill and Development for Men and Women in Railways'.
For crimes against women, police registered 22 cases so far
The ADGP further said so far in this year 22 cases have been registered for crimes against women, both on trains and in railway stations. Two people were also sentenced to three years imprisonment for such crimes. C Sylendra Babu claimed that since the Railway Police is the first to take steps whenever such crimes happen, "crime rate has come down drastically."
Railway police has adequate personnel to handle crimes: ADGP
"The traveling public has full trust in the Railway Police Force as it takes immediate steps against crimes owing to which crime rate has drastically come down," Babu said. The official said the workshop was organized on how to handle such cases and how to proceed with the investigations. The ADGP said Railway Police has an adequate number of personnel to handle crimes.
