TN: DMK to stage state-wide protests to 'condemn' AIADMK
Opposition party DMK in Tamil Nadu today announced it would stage state-wide protests to 'condemn' the ruling AIADMK for getting involved in corruption, and not focusing on public welfare. This counter move comes following AIADMK's announcement to hold state-wide public meetings on September 25 seeking 'trial' of DMK and Congress for "war crimes" against Tamils in 2009 Sri Lankan civil conflict.
Meetings would condemn AIADMK over involvement in corruption: DMK
DMK Propaganda Secretaries Trichy Siva and A Raja said the meetings, titled "Commission-Collection-Corruption", will be held on October 3 and 4. The meetings would be led by senior DMK leaders, including party Treasurer Durai Murugan, TR Baalu, Siva, Raja, and TKS Elangovan, among others, would address these meetings to be held at various towns across the state.
Recently, AIADMK revived 2009 Sri Lankan civil conflict issue
The 2009 Sri Lankan civil conflict issue has been revived by AIADMK in the backdrop of recent remarks of former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa that Indian government helped his country during the final war against LTTE in 2009. He was at the helm when the nearly 30-year-long ethnic strife in Lanka ended with the defeat of the LTTE.
LTTE-Tamil war: Both Congress, DMK faced criticism for Tamil casualty
Both the Congress and DMK (which was a part of the Congress-led UPA in 2009) had faced criticism for India's reported assistance to Sri Lanka then and their failure to prevent casualties of Tamils despite being in power. AIADMK had on September 19 adopted a resolution, alleging that DMK and Congress were responsible for the killings of thousands of Tamils during the war.
