Times Now journalist Herman Gomes attacked outside his Mumbai house
In yet another incidence of violence against journalists, a TV journalist in Mumbai was attacked by a bunch of unidentified thugs near his house in south Mumbai in the wee hours of Sunday. The journalist, Herman Gomes, worked for Times Now, and was left bruised and injured after the attack. Subsequently, the police registered an FIR. Here are the details.
Men armed with knuckle dusters attacked Gomes
Gomes was on his way home with his friend, Cavell D'Costa, early on Sunday morning when the attack took place. When he got out of the cab at around 1.30am outside his house in the Gamdevi area, he saw a group of people waiting. The group, which had some people armed with knuckle dusters, abused Gomes first, before launching an attack on him.
Gomes alleged that the group intended to kill him
After the attack, Gomes alleged that the group was out to kill him. The attack left him with a badly bruised eye, and injuries over his body. Subsequently, he filed an FIR at the Gamdevi police station, and the case has been handed to a senior IPS officer. The motive behind the attack, however, is not known as of now.

Journalist associations react angrily against the attacks
Reacting to the incident, journalist associations in the city and across the country condemned the attack, and blasted the police for allegedly not registering an FIR immediately. The Mumbai Press Club called the attack a "dastardly act", while an association of crime reporters in Mumbai demanded that the assailants be arrested immediately. An investigation is currently underway to identify the attackers and their motive.
