Delhi: Woman passerby killed as gangs open fire at each-other
An innocent woman was killed when she got caught in gunfire between two rival gangs in Delhi's Burari this morning. Two others- one each from the Tillu and Gogi gangs- also died, while five were injured. These gangs have been involved in shootouts previously too. Today's broke out reportedly after Gogi members in a Fortuner hit a Scorpio being driven by members of Tillu.
Members opened fire after rival emerged from a gym
The gunfight broke out at a busy marketplace around 10:15am when a member of one of the gangs emerged from a gym. A 37-year-old woman was caught in the gunfire and succumbed to bullet wounds. Another passerby was hit too, but they survived. The whole gunfight lasted for about 10 minutes. CCTV footage showed gang members chasing and shooting their rivals.
Rivalry started when they got involved in DUSU elections 2010
According to NDTV, the rivalry of Tillu and Gogi gangs has resulted in at least 15 murders till now. The violent fights began when they were hired by different groups of students to help them win the Delhi University student elections in 2010. Both gangs are suspected to be involved in several murder and extortion cases in the city.
