French tourists attacked in UP, third incident in 1.5 months
Just a month after separate incidents of attack on foreign tourists in UP, another similar incident has come to light. A group of French tourists and their Indian friends were allegedly thrashed and molested in Ahraura area of Mirzapur by some local youths yesterday. The injured tourists have been shifted to a hospital. Police have arrested eight youths, reports say. Here's more.
What happened?
According to NDTV, the group was visiting a waterfall in Mirzapur, near Varanasi. As they were returning, some men passed lewd remarks. This led to an argument. The men left, only to return with their friends. They then allegedly assaulted the tourists with sticks and molested the women. When their Indian friend intervened, she was also thrashed. One of them sustained head injuries.
Earlier, a Swiss couple and a German national were attacked
In October, a 24-year-old Swiss couple was harassed and attacked with stones and sticks by some local youths as they were strolling near the Fatehpur Sikri railway station. Instead of helping, others reportedly recorded the incident on camera. Just two weeks later, a German tourist was beaten up at the Robertsganj railway station. The attack came allegedly as he ignored a local man's greetings.
