RBI to soon circulate new Re. 1 notes
The RBI has announced it will soon issue new one rupee notes. The current notes and coins in existence will also continue. "These currency notes are legal tender as provided in The Coinage Act 2011," RBI said in a release. Last November, the government removed the Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes in circulation then, and issued new Rs. 500 and Rs. 2,000 notes.
How will the new coins look?
The new Re. 1 notes have been printed by the government. They will be pink-green in color, and will bear the signature of Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das. The notes will have the Ashok Pillar without the words 'Satyameva Jayate', a hidden '1' in the centre, and the word 'Bharat' in Hindi, vertically arrange on the right.
New Rs. 100, 200 notes on the anvil?
The sudden demonetization of the economy's then-largest notes in November'16 threw the country into disarray as people were left short of change as well as of new tender. The situation took over three months to normalize. Since then, there has been recurring speculation about new currency: according to reports, new Rs. 100 and Rs. 200 notes are also in the works.
