4 killed as terror makes comeback in Kashmir
Four people including 2 civilians were killed when terrorists attacked a police party on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. While police were inspecting the site of a road accident on the highway, three terrorists attacked them. One police officer and one terrorist were killed, while 2 managed to escape. Authorities said they were following the blood trail of the injured terrorist.
Kashmir: 3 attacks in less than a week
On 27 April, terrorists launched an Uri-style attack on an army garrison at Panzgam village near the Line of Control, killing 3 soldiers and injuring 5 others. On 30 April, terrorists attacked a police party with grenades killing one civilian and injuring several cops. More recently, terrorists killed 5 policemen and stole their weapons while attempting to rob a bank cash-van.
Terrorists loot banks in Jammu and Kashmir
Since Oct'16, terrorists have targeted various banks in Jammu and Kashmir, looting Rs. 92 lakh in 13 separate attacks. Four incidents in four days have already taken place in May. The first attack was in Kulgam district on a cash van on 1 May in which terrorists shot dead five policemen and two security-guards. 2 attacks in villages in Pulwama district were also reported.
Military begins operation to flush out terrorists
In a massive military crackdown, over 3000 soldiers cordoned off 30 villages in Shopian district to flush out terrorists. The soldiers were backed up by drones and helicopters. The move was intended to identify and arrest terrorists who were hiding in the region, however no arrests were made. It was one of the Army's biggest operations in the region.
Police looking for others
Director General of Police SP Vaid said "A terrorist was also killed. In fact, pistol of one of the terrorists was also snatched by one of our cops...we are following his blood trail."
