IMD forecasts temperature surge of 4°C in 3-4 days
What's the story
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a gradual rise in maximum temperatures in most parts of India in the next three to four days.
The increase would be between two and four degrees Celsius.
However, some areas in northwest India may see an even sharper increase—temperatures could go up to five degrees Celsius.

IMD has also forecast a gradual increase in maximum temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius over central India and interior Maharashtra in the next four to five days.
In Gujarat, temperatures are expected to increase gradually by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next three days, followed by a subsequent dip of about 2-3 degrees Celsius.
Global appeal
WMO calls for global early warning improvements
On World Meteorological Day (Sunday), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) urged all UN member countries to fill gaps in early warning systems across the world.
The WMO, which marked its 75th anniversary as a UN-specialized agency, commended the impressive advances made in forecasting abilities but said there were still gaps in observation networks, forecasting accuracy, and access to high-quality climate and hydrological data.
Necessity highlighted
UN chief emphasizes importance of early warning systems
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highlighted the need for early warning systems in his message on World Meteorological Day.
He said, "The theme of this year's world meteorological day - closing the early warning gap together—reminds us that, in this new climate reality, early warning systems are not luxuries. They are necessities and sound investments—providing an almost 10-fold return."
