Telangana Police rejects WhatsApp, creates own app for internal communication
What's the story
WhatsApp's policy of allowing 256 members per group proved pretty limiting for the 60,000-strong workforce of Telangana Police, so they have developed an app for their internal communication.
Called 'COP-Connect', the app has no such limit as WhatsApp, and in a click, all the group members get notified in seconds.

App successfully tested, will be made available to all
"A separate server for this purpose in the data centre of IT&C enables to include any number of users in a single group," explained a senior cop.
The app has been successfully tested and will be made available to all the police officers soon.
Except for the allowed number of group members, other features are similar to that of WhatsApp.

The app can be used to send video, audio, photo or text messages to almost 1L members of that particular group. "Even (big files like) training modules and detailed content on other policing policies can be distributed," a senior cop said.

"Would be of immense use to on-field officers"
The group would have every police officer enlisted, starting from a constable to the officer at the DGP level.
Moreover, the information shared in a particular group would be secured.
"COP-Connect would be of immense use to police persons and officers moving at the field level, especially in cases of missing persons, thefts, burglaries and dacoities," said a police official.
