'Kar diya 2024 mein murder': Teen posts after killing doctor
A 17-year-old boy was apprehended by the police on Thursday for allegedly murdering a 55-year-old Unani medicine practitioner, Dr. Javed Akhtar, in his private nursing home in Delhi. The incident took place at Nima Hospital in southeast Delhi's Kalindi Kunj area on Wednesday night. Following the incident, the accused allegedly posted a photograph of himself on social media with the caption, "Kar diya 2024 mein murder" (Finally committed murder in 2024).
Teenager's motive for murder under investigation
The accused had visited the hospital with another teenager, who is currently absconding, under the pretext of seeking first-aid treatment. After the dressing, the teenager allegedly confronted Akhtar about overcharging for the treatment, NDTV reported, citing sources. However, police are also investigating another possible motive—that the murder may have been an act of revenge following allegations that Akhtar sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl who was friends with the accused.
Social media post and ongoing investigation
The girl's mother, a nurse at Nima Hospital and reportedly in a relationship with Akhtar, is also being questioned by police. "The woman staffer's daughter was in the nursing home and sleeping during the shooting. When questioned, the girl said that Akhtar used to molest her. She told her friend about it and he decided to kill the medical practitioner," an investigator said. "It has been revealed that the girl did not share about the molestation with her mother."
Details of the crime and victim's background
The police have recovered the weapon used in the crime and are currently examining CCTV footage from inside Nima Hospital to identify suspects. They are also investigating how these teenagers obtained a gun. After the treatment was completed, they asked for a prescription and went to Akhtar's cabin where he was later found with a gunshot wound.
