Atishi, team inspect Delhi streets for 'pothole-free by Diwali' mission
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and her cabinet ministers hit the streets on Monday to inspect the state of roads in the national capital. This inspection is part of a larger initiative by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to make Delhi pothole-free by Diwali. "The whole cabinet of the Delhi government has been on Ground Zero since 6:00am to inspect the roads and make all PWD roads in Delhi pothole-free," Atishi said on social media.
Delhi ministers inspect roads, aim for swift repairs
Atishi has personally inspected roads in areas such as NSIC Okhla, Modi Mill flyover, Chirag Delhi, Tughalakabad extension, Mathura Road, Ashram Chowk and underpass, reports said. She noted that the roads were in poor condition and causing traffic issues due to potholes. "I have instructed officials to get the roads repaired on war footing," she stated. Other ministers including Saurabh Bharadwaj and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also participated in the inspection at Patparganj in east Delhi.
Monsoon rains and political disruptions blamed for road conditions
Bharadwaj pointed out that although the AAP has been ruling for a decade, the current state of the roads should be taken stock of honestly. He blamed the bad condition on monsoon rains and political upheaval during Kejriwal's six-month imprisonment. Bharadwaj said, "Monsoon rain is a factor behind the condition of roads. But the biggest factor is that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was in jail for six months, and attempts were made to stop all work in Delhi."
Delhi's road repair initiative expected to finish by Diwali
The city-wide drive to check and fix damaged roads is set to wrap up by the end of October, aiming for a pothole-free Delhi before Diwali. The plan has all ministers on board, scouting for bad road spots needing repairs from the Public Works Department (PWD). Atishi is in charge of the roads in south and southeast Delhi, while Saurabh Bharadwaj is looking after east Delhi.
Other ministers join in the city-wide road inspection
Other ministers also joined in the city-wide road inspection. Gopal Rai inspected areas in North East Delhi, including Yamuna Vihar and Wazirabad Road. Imran Hussain inspected roads in central and New Delhi, Kailash Gehlot in South West Delhi and Outer Delhi, and Mukesh Shehrawat in North West Delhi. Other AAP legislators have also hit the streets as part of the exercise.
