Actress Sangeetha, allegedly involved in prostitution, arrested from Chennai resort
Popular Tamil actress Sangeetha has been arrested from a Chennai resort for her alleged involvement in a prostitution ring. Police raided the place after receiving a tip-off, TOI reports. When they arrived, they found Sangeetha and another accused at the center, who had enlisted several young actresses in sex-work. Three were rescued. Sangeetha, currently appearing in 'Vani Rani,' was also seen in 'Chellamey' and 'Aval.'
Other young actresses were from different states, mostly North India
IB Times reports that most of the actresses they found in the resort on East Coast Road were from North India. Others came from different states. They have now been sent to a local rehabilitation center. Sangeetha and another accused, Suresh, who had allegedly brought the girls into sex work, were nabbed. They were produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore, and sent to jail.
Sangeetha has appeared in many popular movies and serials
Sangeetha had made her debut with the Tamil film 'Karuppu Roja' (1996). Since then, she has been seen in several movies, including notable ones like 'Unmai' and 'Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum.' But she is more known for her work on television shows like 'Valli,' 'Pillai Nila,' and 'Annakodiyum Aindhu Pengalum,' among others. Currently, she appears on 'Vani Rani,' which also stars Raadhika Sarathkumar.
Several high-profile actresses have faced prostitution allegations
Several well-known names in the entertainment industry have been found involved in prostitution. In 2014, Shweta Prasad Basu of 'Makdee' fame was arrested in Hyderabad for similar acts, but all charges against her were later dropped. Bollywood's Sherlyn Chopra has admitted to being involved in prostitution "out of compulsion." Mishti Mukherjee, Saira Banu, Divya Sri and many others have been linked to sex work.
