Syringes, cotton left inside woman's stomach during Varanasi hospital surgeries
Doctors at Sir Sunderlal Hospital (Varanasi) left syringes inside a patient's stomach during a surgery in 2017, reports say. But that's not all. The woman says doctors at the hospital, affiliated to BHU's Institute of Medical Sciences, also left "cotton and flesh" inside her when she delivered a child in 2013. "This was detected recently. We have begun an investigation," SHO Sanjeev Mishra said.
The family found out when she developed pains after surgery
According to her husband Vikas, she underwent sterilization at the hospital in 2017, but began experiencing pain afterwards. They then took her for a checkup. Doctors conducted a surgery and found two syringes inside her. They asked them to immediately get an X-Ray done. Shockingly, it revealed another three syringes still inside her. Police say a lady doctor was involved. A probe is on.
At least three such cases in the last four months
Just last November, a 35-year-old woman from Fatehpur, UP, claimed needles, syringes and pins "just come out" of her legs. Doctors suspected she was inserting them herself, but she denied ever doing so. There was no confirmation. The same month, doctors in MP found 263 coins, several shaving blades, rusted iron shackles, big needles, glass pieces and nails inside a 35-year-old man's stomach.
