Sushant Rajput case: Rhea, Showik's bail plea rejected
A special court in Mumbai today rejected the bail pleas filed by actor Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, and the other four accused in a drugs case related to actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death. Rhea was arrested on Tuesday, while Showik was arrested last week. The court had heard the plea on Thursday and reserved its order. Here are more details.
All six accused to remain in custody till September 22
The bail pleas filed by two staff members of the late actor, viz. Samuel Miranda and Dipesh Sawant, and alleged drug peddlers Abdul Basit Parihar and Zaid Vilatra have also been rejected. All accused will now remain in the judicial custody until September 22.
Rhea and others booked under NDPS Act 1985
To note, Rhea and the five other accused have been booked under the Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii), 22, 27A, 28, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The NCB has found that Rhea, Showik and the two staffers of Sushant had been procuring and paying for banned drugs, and were also in touch with drug dealers, including Parihar and Vilatra.
Claiming innocence, Rhea had filed a bail plea
Meanwhile, Rhea has claimed that she is innocent and has been "falsely implicated" in the case. She had filed a bail plea late Tuesday which was rejected by a local court. Subsequently, she filed another plea in the Sessions Court. She also said she was forced into making self-incriminatory statements while in custody, adding that the offenses, if any, are bailable in nature.
Sushant had died in an apparent suicide in June
Sushant, aged 34, a rising star of Hindi movies, was found dead at his home in Mumbai's Bandra on June 14. Mumbai Police said it was suicide and revealed the actor was suffering from depression. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently probing the circumstances that led to Sushant's death. Meanwhile, Enforcement Directorate is investigating a money laundering case related to his death.
