Diamond merchant, who bought Modi suit, duped of Rs. 1cr
Kamlesh Kevadia, a Surat-based diamond merchant who had bought the famous pinstripe 'name suit' of PM Narendra Modi for Rs. 4.31cr in an auction, was allegedly conned of Rs. 1cr. On Tuesday, Kamlesh filed a complaint against Himmat Koshiya and his brother (owner of Nandu Doshi Ni Wad diamond firm) at the Katargam police station. Kamlesh is the GM of Lalji Patel-owned Dharmanandan Diamonds.
Accused bought rough diamonds on credit, didn't pay back
In the complaint, Kamlesh said that his firm got in touch with the two brothers through a diamond broker, Janak Dhola, around five months ago. The complainant has alleged that around four months back they purchased rough diamonds on credit from his company. After they failed to repay, Kamlesh went to their firm only to find out that it was shut.
Kamlesh tried to find the two accused, failed
Later, Kamlesh decided to put in all efforts to find the two accused. However, he failed. According to the Katargam Inspector, ZN Ghasura, the diamonds they took from the Dharmanandan Diamonds were indeed worth over Rs. 1cr and weighed 1,500 carats. Moreover, it was found out that Kamlesh is not their first victim. They had duped another trader in a similar manner.
Trying to locate the accused, will arrest soon, says police
"The accused neither returned the diamonds nor paid cash. With the same modus operandi, they had also cheated another diamond merchant in Varachha. We are trying to locate the accused and will arrest them soon," said Ghasura. Meanwhile, one can easily spot the famous suit of PM Modi displayed in a glass box as one enters Kamlesh's factory.
