Who was Dr Navdeep—NEET topper—found dead at Delhi guest house
Dr. Navdeep Singh, a resident of Muktsar district in Punjab and a second-year MD student at Delhi's Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), was found dead on Sunday morning. His body was found dead in his room located at the Parsi Anjuman Guest House in Central Delhi. The 25-year-old had topped the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) in 2017. His body was handed over to his family after postmortem by Sunday evening, with cremation scheduled for Monday afternoon in Muktsar.
Unanswered calls lead to discovery of Singh's demise
Singh was discovered after he failed to answer calls, prompting his father to send a friend to check on him. The friend found that the door of his hostel room was locked from inside. A Delhi Police officer stated, "It was prima facie found that the deceased died by suicide." However, no suicide note has been discovered and inquest proceedings are currently underway.
Singh's academic achievements and family background
Singh first made headlines in June 2017 when he secured All India Rank (AIR) 1 in NEET. He had expressed his desire to study at MAMC due to its fee structure, stating that cracking NEET was his main target. His father, Gopal Singh, is the principal of a government senior secondary school in Sarainaga village, Muktsar district. Gopal believes that his profession as a Physics teacher might have influenced Navdeep's interest in science and aspiration to become a doctor.
