Sridevi's final journey: Actor cremated with full state honors
The iconic Sridevi has been cremated with state honors at the Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium in Mumbai. Her husband, Boney Kapoor performed the last rites. On her final journey from the Celebrations Sports Club, she was dressed in her favorite red-and-golden Kanjeevaram saree, draped in a tricolor, and placed in a glass casket. Sridevi died in her hotel room bathtub in Dubai
Sridevi's body was brought to India yesterday, three days after she died at a Dubai hotel on the night of February 24. The family was in Dubai to attend nephew Mohit Marwah's wedding. On Saturday, her husband Boney Kapoor, who had reportedly flown in from India to surprise her, found her lying motionless in her hotel room bathtub.
Delay in repatriation of body after forensics find 'accidental drowning'
Initial reports attributed the death to a cardiac arrest, but forensics revealed that it had happened due to 'accidental drowning.' In Dubai, any death outside a hospital has to be thoroughly probed by law. Investigators questioned hotel staff and some others. Boney Kapoor and Mohit Marwah also spoke to police. Dubai police released her body yesterday, a day later than initially planned.
The who's who of the film industry attends condolence meet
A condolence meet was held earlier today. Many stars visited to pay respects, including Salman Khan, Hema Malini, Vidya Balan, Suresh and Vivek Oberoi, Chiranjeevi, Rajkummar Rao, Ramesh Sippy, Tisca Chopra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika Padukone, Jackie Shroff, Rakesh Roshan, Kajol, Jaya Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Sushmita Sen. Thousands of fans stood outside the Club, holding banners and flowers. There was heavy security deployment.
