Instagram live video captures Pune youth dying in crash
Netizens in India actively use Instagram's live video feature to broadcast everything from parties to concerts to protests. However, in a recent tragic turn of events, Instagram Live also became privy to a death. A 20-year-old engineering student in Pune, who died early on Sunday morning in a car crash, was live on Instagram when the deadly crash happened. Here's how it transpired.
The deceased's cousin was broadcasting live from the passenger seat
The deceased, 20-year-old Shubham Jadhav, was on a drive with his 18-year-old cousin Hrishikesh Pawar, who is a first-year BCom student. Pawar was in the passenger's seat and was broadcasting live when the incident happened. Just moments before the fatal crash, the video shows a smiling Jadhav not wearing a seat belt and driving at 120kmph.
The crash killed Jadhav immediately
Unfortunately for the reckless duo, thrill turned into tragedy as moments later the speeding car hit a light pole and crashed into a supporting concrete pole built on the divider. The front of the car was completely damaged and Jadhav was killed immediately. Pawar was critically injured. During rescue efforts, fire officials had to cut open the front section of the car to retrieve them.
