A commando of Sonia Gandhi's SPG security cover goes missing
An SPG commando from Congress President Sonia Gandhi's security team has gone missing under suspicious circumstances. The last time he was seen was on September 1. Rakesh Kumar had reported for duty at Gandhi's 10, Janpath residence on his last known day. Police were later surprised when they found out he had an off that day. He had left behind his revolver and phone.
What happened?
Family of the 31-year-old couldn't contact him on September 2 (he had left his phone), but assumed his duty hours had been extended. When he remained unavailable the next day, they still didn't worry; he kept going to locations with no mobile connectivity for work. They grew worried when there was no information even after two days. After enquiring at Janpath, they alerted police.
What's the status now?
A missing persons report has been filed with Delhi Police. Investigation is underway. There has been no breakthrough in the case yet, but cops are examining the matter. Rakesh's wife and two kids stay at a rented house in Dwarka.
