Indian Govt must slap penalty for Aadhaar misuse: Edward Snowden
The government must slap a penalty on anyone using Aadhaar data for purposes other than public services, whistle-blower Edward Snowden said. He said that if the Indian Government was serious about implementing Aadhaar for the public good, it must ensure criminal penalty against anyone misusing the data. Snowden was speaking via video-conferencing in the fifth edition of "Talk Journalism" event in Jaipur last weekend.
Citizens don't need to explain why they need privacy: Snowden
Replying to a question about surveillance issue, Snowden said, "No government will say that it has decided that people don't have rights. They would rather say that they're bringing in a new program that'll safeguard people's rights." He made a point stating that citizens don't need to explain why they need privacy, it's the government that needs to explain why people don't need rights.
Snowden says privacy can be protected by strong legal system
Snowden said that it's a myth that youngsters aren't concerned about privacy. The former employee of USA secret agency CIA said, "We've privacy issues because it helps those who violate it." He said privacy can be safeguarded through better encryption systems and strong legal system.
