Delhi: Thief snatches earring, tears off woman's earlobe
A 47-year-old woman in Delhi was left in need of a plastic surgery after a thief targeted her gold earrings and tore off her earlobe. The incident happened on a busy stretch in Shakti Nagar, but no one came to help and Vandana Sharma had to walk alone to a hospital, she said. Though the robbery was captured on CCTV, the thief remains unidentified.
She was walking home in evening when she was targeted
Three days ago, Sharma got off from a bus near the Uttam Nagar terminal in the evening and was walking home when she was targeted, her husband Manoj Sharma said. Someone suddenly clutched at her ears from behind, she reported. One earring "immediately tore through (her) left ear and came off," but the other didn't. The thief "kept pulling till the earlobe tore."
Case lodged under Section 394 for causing hurt during robbery
Sharma says she couldn't react for sometime due to the extreme pain, but no one came to help while the thief fled on foot. Though the incident was recorded, he couldn't be identified as only his back was captured in the CCTV footage.
Snatchings have ended in broken fingers, stitches, even death
Snatchings sometimes result in violent injuries. Last August, a Delhi woman was killed when she fell off a running autorickshaw when thieves pulled at her handbag. Then a DU student needed 38 stitches after thieves attacked her with a sharp object. Last week, a Mumbai woman fell off a moving train, was hit by another and lost some fingers in a robbery bid.
